A fellow DateSpacer recommended Planet Sushi to us after she read our review of Amber, it’s Upper West Side neighbor. So we decided to check it out. On the quality of food (never a dealbreaker when determining a great Datespace, but certainly of importance), it’s right up there with Amber. Large, fresh portions of fish. Creative presentation and variety too. In terms of ambience, Amber wins the sexy-decor award, but Planet Sushi wins on volume - it’s much easier to have a conversation there.
And on value, while Amber isn’t overpriced, it seems so when placed side-by-side with Planet Sushi, which boasts a $60 loveboat that encourages sharing and includes heaping portions of sashimi, special rolls, and oysters (long-believed to be an aphrodisiac). Like Amber, Planet Sushi is on Restaurant.com and today only (November 10, 2008), promotion code PRESENT knocks off 60%.
