Here is what’s on tap for the hearts-afire month of February: The over-accessorized dresser.

At first glance, miss thangs’ outfit looks like it’s ready to swing, but the ensemble is a little green around the edges. While the jeans are fabulous with the detailed wash, they add unnecessary bulk to a petite gal. A fun block-print dress like this is better off going solo with tights or leggings. Sans jeans, the A-line will flow better and allow you to show off those smokin’ gams. And the belt? Cute, but not for this outfit.

The black chunky heel boots are pretty awesome—we’d bet a pretty penny that if those are short boots you can still wear them over tights—if you are comfortable being fashion forward. (Hell, it’s New York, why not?) For the more conservative ladies, knee-high flat or heeled boots will glam it up too.

As for a girl’s best friend, the bling, well…blangs. The vintage black ring is a keeper, and while we love the two-toned flower necklace, it’s a bit matchy-matchy. Try a long gold chain necklace that will sway the music of your hips. And do we spy a lone hair band on that wrist?? All objects of utility are NOT accessories! Form over function is the rule for fashionistas.

We give over-accessorized dresser a B+. A good base, but she needs to Feng-Shui the outfit.

Instead of turning every which way under those unforgiving lights, try giving a look in the First Date Fashionista mirror—I can tell you which outfit is the fairest one of them all.

First up on the agenda: The disheveled co-ed (pictured, right).

Just a few points on execution and this young gent will be lightin’ up the room in style. I can tell the jeans are good quality, but they look like they sat in the dryer for about 12 hours. I know it’s a pain in the tuchus, but ironing jeans will make for a crisp, clean look. Unfortunately, women DO notice these things…

The brown lace-ups are solid, but they aren’t the best match with the black jacket. I’d suggest going for either a lighter shade of brown (camel hue) or casual to dressy black shoes.

Bottoms up! I love the black cord jacket and button-up shirt. Vertical stripes are always flattering, and the hint of color is just enough to make the blazer pop. I do have an issue with the gray undershirt in this combination—stick to white or black. Also, if you don’t mind flaunting a little skin, nix the tee altogether and leave the top button open. You won’t look too uptight if you button it all the way up. (A word of caution: If you have one of those hirsute, super fuzzy chests, it’s probably best to cover up unless you want to submit yourself to a Steve Carrel-esque waxing experience. Sorry guys.)

He’s got the right idea, but could smarten up a bit. We give disheveled co-ed a B.
