How to Add a New DateSpace
To add a new DateSpace, you must first have an account with us (you DO have a free account, right?) Follow the steps below and you can add to our growing Date-abase!
1. Click on the blue “Add New Location” button on the DateSpaces.com homepage.
2. Add the location information in the boxes that come up. Put in as much information as you have, including the location’s phone number and website URL if you can.
3. Add “tags,” a cute name for “search criteria.” If the location you added is a well-priced pizzeria, you may want to tag with the words “Pizza,” “Italian,” and “Value,” as well as the neighborhood or borough where it’s located. This will help people who search the Date-abase find it more easily.
4. After specifying all the information you have about the DateSpace (the more the better), simply click the “Add Location” button to add the DateSpace to the Date-abase.
Once you’ve added your new DateSpace to the Date-abase, your DateSpace will have its very own location page. To pull up the location page, simply search the Date-abase for your DateSpace (see: How to Search the Date-abase.) You can add a picture of the DateSpace by clicking on the “add pics” link right below the blank gray box where a picture would be. Just make sure you always cite the source of the pictures you add—make your high school English teacher proud!
How to Plan a Date
DateSpaces.com not only helps you find great places to go on a date, but we can also help you design a whole night’s itinerary, keep track of your plans, and share them with your partner. You can even map out destination-to-destination directions, so you never get lost getting from the restaurant to the theater, or finding that small hidden bar.
We want to help you set the stage for a great evening of fun and romance. You can create a date itinerary in two ways:
Start from My Datebook
1. When you’re in the “My DateBook” section, look for the button that says “Create a Date”. When you click on it, you’ll see that a gray plus (+) sign appears at the top of the page. You now have a blank itinerary to which you can start adding locations.
2. Browse our Date-abase to find a DateSpace appropriate for your date. When you've found a DateSpace you like, click on the "Add to Current Date" button on that DateSpace’s location page. Doing this will make that location “Act 1” of your itinerary. (For more on searching the Date-abase, see: How to Search the Date-abase.) You can keep adding locations in this manner until you have a complete itinerary. Mix and match DateSpaces you like to create a unique experience for each date.
3. Once your itinerary is complete, you enter the day and month of the date so it can be added to your calendar. When you’re through, click the “Save the Date!” function, and the full itinerary will be saved in your DateBook.
Start from any DateSpace’s location page
1. The process here is the same as above, but you start on any DateSpace’s location page.
2. Look for the button labeled “Add to My DateBook.”
3. Clicking this button will start an itinerary with this location as Act 1.
4. Continue to add as many additional “Acts” as you want by clicking “Add More Locations” and then click “Save the Date!” when you’re done to save the itinerary to your DateBook.
Here’s an example date itinerary (insert screen shot of an itinerary)
Act 1: Dinner at Bianca Restaurant
Act 2: Drinks and Bar Louie
Act 3: Live Music at Bowery Ballroom
Once you’ve designed the perfect date, you can map it out as well as email it to your partner so they know what cool plans you’ve picked out. Just go to your DateBook and click the “Map It” and “Invite your date” buttons to next to your itinerary. And remember, if you play it well, you may even get an encore!
How to Rate, Edit, Review and Tag
How do I rate a DateSpace?
To rate a DateSpace, you must first have an account with us (you DO have a free account, right?)
First, locate the DateSpace you would like to rate by searching our Date-abase. View the DateSpace's unique location page by clicking on the name of that DateSpace. On the upper right hand corner of the DateSpace's page, you can vote on the DateSpace's date-ability according to five date-specific criteria (original, low-key, collaborative, good for conversation, romantic) as well as one overall great date criterion.
How do I edit information about a DateSpace?
To edit a DateSpace, you must first have an account with us (you DO have a free account, right?)
To add pictures for a DateSpace, click the "add pics" hyperlink on the upper left of the location page. You can easily edit the wiki portion of a DateSpace's page by clicking the edit button on the upper right hand corner of the "DateSpace Details" block. You will be directed to a screen with fields to input or change information. When you're done, click the "Save Changes" button. Please note, factual information should be added to "DateSpace Details." User reviews and opinions should go under "Comment on this DateSpace."
How do I review a DateSpace?
Both registered and non-registered users are allowed to review DateSpaces. Find the block at the bottom of the location page screen that says "Comment on this DateSpace." If you are a non-registered user, you must fill in the required fields (name and email) in order to submit your review. Once you have written your review, click the "add comment" button. Your review will now appear on the location page under "Comments and Reviews" as well as on the site's homepage under "Recent Comments."
How do I tag a DateSpace?
To tag a DateSpace, you must first have an account with us (you DO have a free account, right?)
On every DateSpaces location page on the upper left, there is a field for tags. You'll notice lists of tags in this field already. Once you're registered and logged in, you can start adding as many new tags as you would like to describe that particular location. All tags are separated by a space. The only limitation on tags is that they must not include spaces. So if your location page is part of a two-word neighborhood like "Meatpacking District", you may want to tag it as md, meatpacking-district, MeatpackingDistrict, meatpacking.district, or whatever else makes sense to you. You probably don't want to use commas, though, since a comma will be become part of the tag.
How to Search the "Date-abase"
Searching the Date-abase (get it?) is quick and easy. Just click on the search box at the top of any page and type in your search terms according to one or more the following criteria:
1. The name of the DateSpace – If you know the name of the place you’re looking for, just type it in the search box. Really, it’s that simple!
2. The borough/neighborhood you’re in – You may search by full boroughs, or by neighborhood. We recommend that you use the neighborhood option here if you can—the more specific your search, the narrower the results.
3. Popular tags – Each DateSpace comes with its unique set of tags, or search descriptors. For instance, if you type in “Chinese”, you will get a full list of Chinese restaurants in NYC. To narrow your search, combine tags such as “Brooklyn Chinese”.
4. Once you’ve typed in your search terms, click the “Search the Date-abase” button to generate your list of DateSpaces. Note that you can also add search terms to your search by clicking on the tags on the left side of the results page. The example used above (“Brooklyn Chinese”) can be accessed by clicking on these terms instead of typing them. Talk about easy!
How to Use MyDatebook?
Wanna get personal? Then you’ll love your MyDateBook. “What’s ‘MyDateBook,’” you ask? “And what’s with all the possessive pronouns?” Let us explain, starting with the fact that “MyDateBook” is really your DateBook (and if you can think of a better way to say it, we’d love to hear it):
What is MyDateBook?
MyDateBook is your personal page at DateSpaces.com. There, you can maintain your profile, keep track of past and future dates, keep a journal, and catalog the places where you’ve been or wish to go. We think of it as a sort of electronic dating planner/journal.
How do I access MyDateBook?
You can access MyDateBook from any page at DateSpaces.com. First, just make sure you’re logged in. Then click the red “MyDateBook” tab on the upper right corner of whatever page you’re on and, voila, MyDateBook.
How do I maintain my profile?
When in My DateBook, you’ll see “Your Username’s DateBook” near the top of the page, alongside a box for a picture. To update your profile, simply click the little “edit” button near your username. This will take you to a page where you can specify your personal information, such as your gender, relationship status, Web site, and the like. You can also upload a picture, if that suits your fancy. Obviously, you don’t need to share any information that you’re not comfortable having others see. When you’re all set, just click the “Update Profile” button.
How do I keep track of my past and future dates?
Any date you’ve planned/created at DateSpaces.com will be automatically saved to My DateBook. (For information on how to plan/create a date, see: How to Plan a Date.) Your dates are displayed in the middle of the page—where you can elect to look at your past dates, future dates, or all dates at once by selecting the appropriate gray tab above the red bar. To see the details of any particular date, just locate the date of interest in the display and click the little pencil-and-paper icon in the “Tools” column. Then, you can add notes or comments where it says “Summary.” You can also view an individual date you’ve planned by locating that date on My Calendar in the upper right corner of the page. Just click the heart icon corresponding to your date to pull it up.
How do I keep track of places I want to go in the future?
How many times have you been at the video store and thought, “I know there’s a bunch of movies I’ve been wanting to see, but I can’t think of any of them right now”? With My DateBook, you’ll never have that problem again. Well, at least when it comes to places to go. Whenever you hear of a place you’d like to check out at some point in the future just add it to your Wishlist in MyDateBook. To do so, simply search for the location in the Date-abase. (For more on how to search the Date-abase, see: “How to Search the Date-abase.” LINK NEEDED) Once you’ve found it, click the link for that location. This will take you to the DateSpaces page for the location. There, you’ll see the business information for the location on the upper left, with two buttons beneath it. Click the “Add to My Wishlist” button and the location will be added to your Wishlist in MyDateBook. To view the list of all the locations in your Wishlist, simply go to MyDateBook and click the gray tab labeled “Wishlist.”
How do I use the Journal?
MyDateBook comes with its own built-in blog. To write a journal entry about a date—or, really, whatever you feel like writing about—just click the gray “New Journal Entry” button underneath your profile. When you’ve finished writing, just click “Save Changes” and your journal entry will be posted. To access prior journal entries, click the gray “Journal” tab in the middle of the page.
What are the MyCalendar and MyDateSpaces features?
MyCalendar marks the days for all dates you’ve been on and those you have planned for the future, as well as any journal entries you’ve written. Dates are marked by red heart icons, and journal entries by yellow notepad icons. Clicking an icon will display the date/journal entry of interest.
MyDateSpaces (lower right corner of the page) is an index of all of the individual DateSpaces that have been part of dates that you’ve planned at DateSpaces.com.
We think that one of the great things about DateSpaces.com is that it’s a place where upstanding citizens like yourself can share tips, lessons, and stories from your dating experiences—and MyDateBook is ideal for doing just that. Just remember: other DateSpacers can see your MyDateBook, and you theirs. So please share away, but only what you wouldn’t mind others seeing :)
